Description

CL-25 is a beeswax candle in an aluminium body, designed to outlive every refill. The wax burns clean, with no synthetic fragrance, no dye and no petroleum.

Each refill is cast from 210 grams of pure beeswax and burns for approximately 40 hours, releasing a soft natural honey scent and a warmer, more golden flame than conventional candles.

When the candle has burned out, you swap the refill, recycle it, or repurpose the body. Nothing is wasted.

Hand-cast and assembled in Denmark.

The design process

CL-25 explanation, process and rationale

What
CL,25 is a candle object built from two contrasting materials, pure beeswax and anodized aluminium. It combines a natural light source with an industrial outer structure, creating an object that works both as candle and reusable container.

Why
The starting point came from a strong attraction to metal and industrial visual language. The interest was in creating something that carries that technical expression, while still feeling relevant in a home setting. During development, beeswax became central because of its material qualities. It burns longer, gives a warmer glow, releases less toxic fumes, and carries a subtle natural scent of honey. That discovery shaped the direction of the product.

The contrast between the organic beeswax and the aluminium profile became the core idea. One material is soft, natural and temporary. The other is rigid, technical and long lasting. Together they create balance.

How
The outer shell is made from an aluminium profile originally developed for machine building and industrial applications. It is extruded and anodized, giving it the matte and durable surface associated with technical components. The profile slots define the visual identity, but are also functional, allowing the candle to be accessorized or adapted.

The beeswax candle is cast in a custom mould designed to fit precisely into the profile. When the candle has burned out, the aluminium body remains and can be refilled with a new wax insert, reused for storage, or applied in other ways. This extends the lifespan of the object beyond a single use.

Material data

Material Composition

  • Beeswax is produced by bees in the EU from conventional beekeeping.
  • Outer shell made from extruded aluminium.
  • Base plate and screws are made from stainless steel.

Benefits of Beeswax

Clean burn: Beeswax burns cleanly and produces almost no smoke or soot when the wick is properly trimmed, making it more pleasant indoors than paraffin.

Long burn time: Its high melting point means beeswax candles burn slower than many other wax candles, providing a longer burn time.

Natural scent: Beeswax has a mild, natural fragrance of honey and pollen without added perfumes.

Warm light: The flame emits a warm, golden glow reminiscent of sunlight, creating a calm and comfortable ambiance.

Maintenance

Once the wax has burned out, the container can be refilled filled with a new candle, recycled or used to store small objects.

Care Instructions

Avoid washing the aluminium container in a dishwasher, as this may cause staining and discoloration.

To remove leftover wax.
Hold the container upside down in the sink and pour boiling water through it until the remaining beeswax loosens and falls out.

For deep cleaning.
Melt any remaining wax in the container with a little cooking oil, wipe the inside clean with paper towel, then wash with soap and water to remove the oil.

The metal will be very hot, so be careful.
